Humanitarian corridor to Rakhine part of international conspiracy: Khairul Ahsan

Advocate Khairul Ahsan, Chairman of the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh, said that the interim government of Bangladesh has given its policy-level consent to the United Nations’ proposal to establish a humanitarian corridor between Bangladesh and Myanmar’s Rakhine State — a decision he described as a threat to the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

He stated that such a major national decision cannot be taken unilaterally by an interim government without consulting any political party. “A humanitarian corridor with Rakhine may, in the future, be transformed into a military corridor, which would pose serious security risks for our country. This must never be allowed to happen,” he said.

Khairul Ahsan urged that instead of establishing such a corridor, Bangladesh should use the United Nations to put pressure on the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army to take back the forcibly displaced Rohingya population.

He emphasised that the interim government must consult with all political parties before taking any decision beyond its entrusted responsibilities, otherwise, Bangladesh’s sovereignty and independence will be endangered.

He further alleged that powerful international actors are using the United Nations to establish a so-called humanitarian corridor in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and adjacent areas, which may eventually be transformed into a military corridor. He claimed this is part of a broader conspiracy to establish an independent Christian state in the region.

He called on the government to remain vigilant, withdraw from this decision, and engage in discussions with all political parties.
