The Indian border force has so far pushed at least 212 Rohingyas, including 50 registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in India, into Bangladesh.

The BSF on Friday also returned four members of a family from Chandpur district to the Border Guard Bangladesh at Mujibnagar in Meherpur during a flag meeting at the International Boundary Pillar no. 105, New Age correspondent in Kushtia reported.

BGB Mujibnagar company commander subedar Abul Bashar said that the four were detained in India recently, brought to the Hridoypur BSF camp and handed over to the BGB in a flag meeting.

He said that they were safely returned to their family.

New Age staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that the BSF pushed 12 Rohingyas, including three men, four women and five children, into Bangladesh through Batamoral Panpunji area under Baralekha upazila Thursday morning.

BGB 52 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that a BGB patrol team detained the Rohingyas from Batamoral Panpunji area immediately after they were pushed into Bangladesh.

He said that the detainees were registered with the UNHCR in Bangladesh and were handed over to Baralekha police after confirming their identity.

Barlekha police station officer-in-charge Sarker Abul Kashem said they would send the Rohingyas to Ukiah Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.

New Age staff correspondent in Rajshahi reported that the BSF pushed 16 more people, including five children and four women, into Bangladesh through the Patnitala border point in Naogaon early Friday.

The BSF pushed them through the border pillar no. 254/1-S near Shitalmath border outpost in Patnitala upazila, said a BGB-14 press release.

It said that BGB members detained them from a field in Ghurki village inside Bangladesh territory, and handed them over to Patnitala police station.

Patnitala police station officer-in-charge Sheikh Enayetur Rahman said, ‘We are verifying their identities. They will be handed over to their families through the upazila administration.’
